Volleyball Scores 3-0 Victory over Christian Brothers

CLEVELAND, Tenn.-The Lee University volleyball team returned to Walker Arena and posted a 3-0 (25-16, 25-16, 25-16) GSC victory over Christian Brothers University on Tuesday evening. The Lady Flames improved to 14-12 overall and 5-6 in the GSC standings. 

Lee continues to hold the lead for the eighth spot in the standings as the top eight teams advance to GSC postseason play. The Lady Flames travel to Jackson, Tennessee on Friday to test Union University. The Bulldogs are in ninth place in the standings. Lady Flames' head coach Christa Fabre is a former Union assistant and her current assistant CeCe Blanchard played at Union. 

Lee's Tuesday night's balanced attacked was led by sophomore Sophia Lippert. The lefty had ten kills and a .500 attack mark. Abby Stroh and Allie Scurlock totaled nine kills each. Scurlock had six kills in the third set and sparked the Lady Flames' by hitting .381. Naomi Hockless followed with a solid five kills and also a .500 attack percentage. As a team Lee hit .271. 

Ashton Middleton and Clarissa Soza set their teammates up with 14 assists apiece. Stroh added four aces while Kamryn Halpin went to the deck for 14 digs and Carmen Perez joined Soza with eight pickups. 

Christian Brothers had a total of 18 kills, and it was balanced between six players. Jordan Allen was the leader of the group with four slams. Sarah Allyn Thornell dished off 10 assists and worked for three kills. Sofia Rathheim-Hilton and Calah Jackson came up with 15 digs each while Tia Rizvi dug up 14.    

Coach Christa Fabre's Thoughts:

"It was a good win from our team tonight. Getting into the home stretch of our season, this match was an important one for us. It was great to see our team implement some of the things we have been working on in practice." 

"Sophia (Lippert) had a great match with 10 kills and a .500 hitting percentage. Allie (Spurlock) came alive in the third set when we really needed her to." 

"Our team is capable of great things and I'm excited to see them work over the next couple of weeks to finish out the regular season, big matches ahead!"
