CLEVELAND, Tenn. – The Lee University women's tennis team completed a strong week of competition with a 5-0 defeat of King University Sunday afternoon at the DeVos Tennis Center. The Lady Flames won all three matches played this week to improve to 5-0.
King (4-2) traveled with just four athletes, allowing Mirjana Ragastovac and Elizaveta Gnilozubova as winners by default at No. 3 doubles. Ashleigh Simes and Matina Ujdur beat Deniz Aytun and Mishka Koricinova 6-1, while Micaela Maiz and Maria Duarte were 6-3 winners against Mireia Mas Ortega and Neem Shamsuddin to record the doubles point.
Simes defeated Aytun 6-0, 6-1 to open singles competition. Ujdur posted matching 6-2 scores to beat Koricinova in straight sets. Gnilozubova held off Shamsuddin 7-5 in their opening set at No. 3 doubles and secured the team victory with a 6-2 advantage in the second set. Smith took down Ortega 6-1 and 6-1 to provide the final team score.
The Lady Flames will take a little time off before taking on Carson-Newman University on Saturday, February 25. The non-conference match is scheduled for 12 p.m. at the DeVos Tennis Center.
