The Lee baseball team struggled to get anything going in dropping a 16-6 contest to West Georgia on Saturday afternoon in the rubber match of the three-game Gulf South Conference series.
The two clubs dodged raindrops throughout the afternoon, but the Flames had trouble dodging the Wolves' offensive attack. West Georgia pounded out 17 hits and five extra-base hits to seal the series victory.
The Wolves broke open the game with back-to-back five-run innings in the fifth and sixth. Anthony Calabro finished off an incredible series at the dish with a triple, homer and five RBI. He finished the three-game set with three homers and 10 RBI. Henry Daniels added three hits and two RBI while Logan Fink and Cooper Prince each drove in three runs.
Brandon Daniels was a bright spot for the Flames as he doubled, homered, and had two RBI. Dylan Standifer also had two hits in the contest and drove in a pair.
"We just didn't have many answers beyond Nedrow on the mound this weekend. The game got away from us in a hurry and our inability to limit big innings keeps haunting us. We will keep searching for some consistency," said Lee head coach Mark Brew.
Cameron Land (1-1) was tagged with the loss as he gave up four runs on four hits in four innings. The Flames bullpen struggled to keep the Wolves at bay, giving up a combined 12 runs on 13 hits in five innings.
Jackson Hodnik (1-0) earned the win as he gave up one run on two hits in two innings of work.
The Flames fall to 7-8 overall and 3-3 in the GSC. West Georgia improves to 9-3 and 4-2 in league play. Lee will look to get back on track on Wednesday as they welcome Lane College to Larry Carpenter Stadium. First pitch is set for 4 p.m.
