DAHLONEGA, Ga. -The Lee University softball team dropped its 12
th game in a row as the University of North Georgia used an eight run sixth inning to beat the Lady Flames 10-2 on Wednesday afternoon. The Lady Flames fell to 6-21 overall on the season.
Alexa Scalzo got the Lady Flames on the board in the first inning with a solo home run over the left field fence. UNG countered with a single in the bottom of the first but the runner was left stranded.
Alesandro Razo hit a double to left field in the second inning but she was left stranded at third base. UNG took the lead in the bottom of the second. Sydney Blair singled and then two batters later, Georgia Blair hit a two-run home run to give the Nighthawks the lead.
Javria Smith hit a double in the second inning for Lee. That was followed by a walk for Scalzo. However, Sidney Lee and Laney Harris were both retired next to end the threat. In the top of the fourth, Razo single to left field. That was followed by Annalyn Ormsby beating a throw to first for an infield single. Sydney Piattoni then singled up the middle to score Razo and tie the game. Lee loaded the bases in the inning but couldn't bring another run in to home plate.
Ormsby led the sixth inning off with a double and Macha reached on a fielder's choice, but Lee couldn't bring in a run. UNG ended the game with eight runs in the sixth inning. Madi Perry started the inning off with a single. Sophie Mooney also singled and then Hannah Forehand also popped up to be the first out of the inning. Olivia Sinquefield was then hit by a pitch to load the bases. Sydney Blair then followed that up with a single to score the go-ahead run.
Madison Simmons added two runs on a single to make it 5-2. Alaina Watson came in to pitch for the Lady Flames in relief of starter Madison Barnett. She walked Georgia Blair and then Gracie Mixson hit a double to score two more runs and make it 7-2. Lee then changed pitchers again to Natalie Pruitt. The first batter she faced was Jolie Lester who singled to score another run. UNG then did a double steal and Mixson scored to make in 9-2. Perry singled for the second time in the sixth inning and then Mooney brought in the final run of the inning on another single to end the game.
Razo and Ormsby each had two hits in the game with Piattoni and Scalzo being credited with an RBI.
Lee will return home on Friday, March 25 as the Lady Flames will host Mississippi College in a double header beginning at 3 PM at Butler Field.
