Lady Flames Drop Series Finale to Mississippi College

CLEVELAND, Tenn. -The Lee University softball team dropped the final game of the series to Mississippi College on Saturday afternoon at Butler Field. With the loss, Lee fell to 7-23 on the season and 4-11 in GSC play. The Lady Flames were led by Alesandro Razo who hit a grand slam but could not hold on to the lead.
 
Mississippi College started off the game with a single from Alexis Laughlin and then a double from Brooke Fagan to take a 1-0 lead. The Lady Flames tied it in the bottom of the first. Ana Macha single and that was followed by a single from Annalyn Ormsby. Sidney lee drove in Macha with a single as well.
 
The Lady Choctaws retook the lead in the top of the second when Kamryn Eaton reached safely on an error. That allowed Jordan LaFosse to score an unearned run. Fagan hit a solo home run in the top of the third to add a run for MC.
 
The Lady Flames exploded for four runs in the bottom of the third. Alexa Scalzo bunt singled to start the inning. Javaria Smith and Rylie Goodridge each single to load the bases. Alesandro Razo then hit a grand slam to give the Lady Flames a 5-3 lead. It was the first career home run for the sophomore.
 
Mississippi College added a run in the top of the fourth when Shelby Samples scored on a sacrifice fly to make it 5-4. Two runs came across home plate for the Lady Flames in the bottom of the fifth. Scalzo started the inning with a single. After a pitching change, Smith double and then Goodridge doubled to score smith and Scalzo to make it a 7-4 lead.
 
In the top of the sixth, Eaton had another run batted in scoring LaFosse to make it 7-5. Lee added its final run in the bottom of the sixth as Ormsby doubled and Macha scored on an error. MC exploded for five runs in the top of the seventh. Jenna Ergle and Jordan Moore hit back-to-back home runs. That was followed by a LaFosse double and a Sample single. Eaton singled again to score LaFosse. Laughlin grounded out to score another run and then Fagan doubled to score the tenth run of the game. Lee was unable to score in the bottom of the seventh and loss the game 10-8.
 
Five Lady Flames had two hits and three scored two runs. Razo led the team with four RBI.
 
Lee will be back at home on Wednesday, March 29 as the Lady Flames will host King University at 3 and 5 PM at Butler Field.
