RESULTS
CLEVELAND, Tenn. – The Lee University men's track & field team began the outdoor season on Saturday in the Lee Invitational at the Ray Conn Sports Complex. The Flames combined to reach two NCAA Division II provisional qualifying marks to go along with 14 top 10 performances.
Cale Kassen and Caleb Long were the first Lee men to meet provisional marks this season. Kassen cleared 2.05 meters in the high jump to meet the 2.04-meter requirement. The mark is the eighth-best performance in DII so far this season. Long threw the javelin 58.96 meters to exceed the standard by 0.50 meters to place him 17
th on the DII performance list.
The Flames placed five runners in the top seven of the 1500-meter run. Aaron Himes won the race with a time of 3:50.77 with Roberto Fajardo in second (3:51.21), Ryan Lovelace third (3:52.60) and Jacob Hatcher in fourth (3:53.78). Jon Fielding Stogner crossed the line at 3:56.67 for seventh. Titus Lagat was 17
th at 4:04.74.
Nokia Masengu and Niquaine Henry finished in the top seven of the 200-meter dash. Masengu stopped the clock at 21.88 seconds for fifth and Henry was seventh (22.08). Masengu was also third (49.19) in the 400. The 4x400 relay team of Masengu, Henry, Cameron Stine and Long finished second with a combined time of 3:24.65.
Kassen won the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 55.16 seconds, while Henry was third (56.74). Kassen added another event win in the high jump where he met the provisional mark. Stine was second after clearing 1.94 meters and Long was fourth with a jump of 1.74 meters. Myles Mann's 6.20-meter-long jump earned him second in the event.
Long won the javelin throw with Eli Brooks in third place with a throw of 52.27 meters. Stine's throw of 38.02 meters put him in ninth and Mann finished 12
th with a throw of 35.51 meters.
Adan Rodriguez and Ezekiel Harless were Lee's top finishers in the 5000-meter run. Rodriguez was third (14:48.96) and Harless finished fifth (15:07.07). Lagat (15:30.26) and Stephen Clark (15:39.14) were 15
th and 16
th, respectively.
Evan Moore and Caleb Guthery were the top two finishers in the 3000-meter steeplechase. Moore finished the line first at 9:37.90 and Guthery was second (9:49.48).
Brooks led three other Flames into the top eight of the pole vault. Brooks cleared 4.61 meters for first place. Riley Margene was third with a height of 4.26 meters. Stine was seventh at 3.51 meters and Stacen Cunningham was eighth with a clearance of 2.46 meters.
In the shot put, Camden Williams finished fourth with a throw of 14.38 meters. Long was 10
th with a mark of 11.75 meters and Braxton Philpott finished 11
th with a throw of 11.53 meters.
Williams added a first-place finish in the discus with a throw of 48.82 meters. Philpott placed third at 40.91 meters and Matthew Black was seventh with a throw of 38.19 meters. Black finished fourth after a hammer throw of 46.00 meters. Williams was fifth with a toss of 43.23 meters and Philpott placed ninth with a 37.53-meter mark.
Cunningham placed 14
th in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.19 seconds. Stine was 17
th at 11.41.
The Flames will return to action the weekend of April 7-8 in the Flames Invitational. The two-day event will be held at the Ray Conn Sports Complex.
