GREENWOOD, S.C. – The Lee women's golf team placed second (889) in the Lady Bearcat Invitational, hosted by Lander University on Monday and Tuesday at the Greenwood Country Club. Anderson University won the tournament shooting a 873 as a team. The University of North Georgia came in third place seven strokes behind Lee with a 896.
Head Coach Geandra Almeida liked the result from her team. "I am very pleased with the way we played this week. I liked the way the girls responded to the adjustments we made in the past two weeks with practice and our game plan in tournaments. In the first two events we struggled to count a strong fourth score, but this week we had five strong scores every round."
Coach Almeida added, "In round one, freshman Hannah Nall led the way with a two under par 70, her lowest college round to date. This was followed by an even par 72 from Yui and a two over par 74 from Emily Felix. As a team we shot 292, our best round of the spring as a team so far.
The second round, Yui Srichantamit responded with a one under 71, and Emily posted another solid round with a 75. Carson McKie and Hannah Nall shot 76 collectively," noted the coach.
"In the third round today, we saw another good round (74) from Emily. She was a huge anchor this week and finished T14 individually. Yui came up one shot short of first place with a one over par score today. She finished even par for the week. Carson battled her way to a 74 which was huge for the team score. It is really nice that we finally had five solid rounds from everyone on the team each day, which is what we had been looking to improve this week. " said Coach Almeida.
Supuschaya Srichantamit led the way for the Lady Flames finishing tied for second place. She shot an even par 216 (72-71-73) over the three rounds. Emily Felix posted a 223 (74-75-74) to finish tied for 14th. Hannah Nall tallied a 225 (70-76-79)
Carson McKie shot a 227 (77-76-74) and Emily Ritchie had a 231 (76-77-78).
"Our team goal for the final round today was to have the most fun, be the most focused, and to play fearlessly. I think the girls did a great job of keeping those three things in mind, and we had some great momentum throughout the day. A few holes held us back, but overall, it was a very solid performance in a large tournament of twenty teams. Next week we will head to University of North Georgia's match play event, which will be our last regular season tournament of the spring as we look ahead to post season," concluded the coach.
The Lady Flames will be back in action next Monday and Tuesday, April 3-4 at the Brackets Challenge hosted by the University of North Georgia in Homer, Ga.
