Lady Flames Fall To No. 3 Florida Southern

CLEVELAND, Tenn. – The Lee University women's lacrosse team fell to the third-ranked Flordia Southern Mocs, 15-9, on Saturday afternoon at the Ray Conn Sports Complex.

The Mocs got things started scoring just 37 seconds into the contest on a Lizzy Lynch goal and Madison Tare added another one to jump out to the early lead.

The Lady Flames responded with back-to-back Callie Curtis to even things back up at two with 10:19 left in the first.

Sammy Gorrasi then threw one into the back of the net from a Lynch assist and Florida Southern took the lead that they never relinquished. The guests added one more taking advantage of an extra-man opportunity to double up and finished the first period up, 5-3.

Megan Trout cut the lead to one with her 14th goal of the season just under a minute into the second frame. The Mocs added two more goals to try and stretch out their lead. 

Lee cut it to one as Maggie Luzier scored her 12th goal of the season and Makenna Luzier found the back of the net with a pass from her sister, Maggie, to make it, 7-6, at the halftime break.

Florida Southern responded with a five-goal run to start the third and outscored the Lady Flames, 8-3, to ice the game and claim the, 15-9, win.

Curtis and Makenna Luzier led the Lady Flames with three goals each. Maggie Luzier added two of her own and Trout threw in one. Brittney White led all players with 12 draw controls and Kaleigh Bernard recorded five ground balls to go with 11 saves.

Hailey Daleo led all athletes with four goals and Lynch added a pair of assists. Abby McFerren had two draw controls and Lynch recorded four ground balls for the guests.

The Lady Flames are back in action on Wednesday as they travel to take on No. 14 Lynn University at 11 a.m. On Friday Lee completes their Florida road-trip with a matchup against 19th-ranked Embry-Riddle before returning home on March 17th to face Missouri Western.
