Burnette Wins Second Straight Individual Medalist as The Flames Take Second in the Las Vegas Desert Classic

Burnette set a Lee single-round scoring record with his 63 in round two.
LAS VEGAS, Nev. - The No.six Lee men's golf team came in second place at the annual Las Vegas Desert Classic with a team score of 874. At the Boulder Creek Golf Club on Tuesday, Beck Burnette paced the Flames shooting a 204 over the three rounds for 12-under par leading to his sixth career victory. Burnette has now won back-to-back tournaments at the Saint Leo Invitational last week and the Las Vegas Desert Classic this week. Burnette took his second straight individual medalist with a 54-hole score of 204 (72-63-69).

The Flames shot a 300 as a team in round one. Then in rounds two and three they shot a 284 and a 290. Dustin DeMesserman finished 12th for third with a 220 (+4). Oliver Lewis-Perkins was tied for 28th with a score of 225 (+9).

Bennet McNabb finished tied for 43rd with a score of 228 (+12). Connor Pollman shot a 232 (+16) and tied for 67th.

Colorado Christian won the tournament by four strokes over Lee. They finished the three round tournament with a score of 870.

Head Coach John Maupin was pleased with the performance but knows there is still improvement needed. "We had a great experience out here this week. We picked up wins over the 2,3, and 4 teams in the country so that was nice. Hats off to Colorado Christian for out dueling us today, it was a great back and forth.

We played a lot of good golf this week, but we left a lot, a lot of shots out there on the last 3 holes each round. Just struggled to close our rounds out. It felt like we were losing focus and getting distracted by standings/results. I think we're still looking for our best team golf top to bottom, but I think we have some guys that are really close to playing some great golf. We just need them to keep knocking on the door.
Beck was outstanding this week. That 63 was one of the best rounds you'll ever see. He's done a great job of leading our team each week and giving us a chance to be in the hunt."
The Flames will return to action March 13-14 at the Southeastern Collegiate in Valdosta, Ga.
