Flames Fall on the Road at Lincoln Memorial

HARROGATE, Tenn.-The Lee University baseball team dropped a non-conference midweek matchup to Lincoln Memorial University 7-3 on Wednesday afternoon. It is the second game the Flames have lost to the Railsplitters this season. With the loss, the Flames fell to 10-10 on the season.
 
Cam Suto got the game going with a double in the bottom of the first, but was caught stealing to end the frame. Josiah Miller hit a solo home run to start the second inning and give Lee a 1-0 lead. Luke Hughes also had a hit for the Flames but was left stranded. Kasten Harvey was walked to start the bottom of the second for LMU. He got to second on a stolen base and then made it to third on an error. He then scored on a groundout to tie the game at 1-1.
 
The Railsplitters took the lead for the first time in the bottom of the fourth, one runner got on via an error and then Cameron Bowen hit a two-run home run to give LMU the 3-1 lead. The Flames scored twice in the top of the sixth inning to tie the game. Riley Black led the inning off with a single. Dylan Standifer followed that up with another single. A wild pitch advanced both runners. Suto then had a sacrifice fly to score Black. Brandon Daniels followed that up with a single to score Standifer and tie the game.
 
LMU broker the game open in the bottom of the seventh. They had a double and single to score one run. Then after a hit by a pitch, Ryan Kurth hit a three-run home run to make it 7-4. Then Flames did not get another base runner in the eighth or the ninth innings to fall 7-4.
 
Riley Black led the way for the Flames. He was 2-for-4 from the plate and had a run scored. Seth Coffelt had the start for Lee. He went four and two-thirds innings giving up three runs with none of them earned. He had two strikeouts as well.
 
The Flames will be back in action at home for a non-conference weekend series with Frostburg State University. The first game will be Friday, March 10 at 3 PM at Larry Carpenter Stadium.
