BIRMINGHAM, Ala.-Celine Ritter and Deborah Rubin earned Gulf South Conference track athlete of the week and field athlete of the week for their performances at the Georgia Tech Invitational this past weekend.
The Lee University women's track & field team recorded a new Lee record and had eight provisional performances at the Georgia Tech Invitational on Friday and Saturday.
Rubin improved her record in the hammer throw. She launched the hammer 53.54 meters to finish ninth. The mark improves upon the 52.06-meter throw she had recorded a couple weeks ago at the Flames Invitational. Rubin's provisional-qualifying performance moved her up to No. 23 among NCAA Division II athletes.
Ritter met provisional standards in both the 800 and 1500-meter runs. She placed fourth in the 800 with a time of 2:10.12 and was fourth in the 1500 (4:18.79). Ritter is now No. 18 in the 800 and holds the No. 2 time in the 1500.
Rubin added an 11
th-place finish in the shot put with a throw of 13.05 meters and was joined by Symphony Buxton in the hammer throw. Buxton posted a throw of 38.63 meters to finish 23
rd.
The Lady Flames return to action the weekend of May 4-6 in the Gulf South Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships. The three-day event will be held at the Ray Conn Sports Complex.
