CLEVELAND, Tenn. –Sidney Lee had a huge day driving in eight runs in two games as the Lee University softball team split with Shorter University to end the season on Saturday afternoon. Shorter took game one at Butler Field 9-6 before the Lady Flames bounced back with a 5-0 shutout win in game two. It was the third shutout win for the Lady Flames this season with the other two coming against West Georgia and Union.
Game 1
The Lady Flames scored first in game one when Alexa Scalzo hit a sacrifice fly to bring in Ana Macha but Lee could never pull away in the game. Shorter answered right back in the top of the second with a one off of a double and a sacrifice bunt.
The lead went right back to the Lady Flames in the bottom of the second when Kylie Bohl brought Laney Harris home. The lead was short lived as Shorter cane right back and took the lead for the first time in the game in the top of the third. Carlee Graham hit a two-run home run for Shorter to take a 3-2 lead.
Lee struck right back in the bottom of the third as Sidney Lee hit a three-run home run to give Lee a 5-3 lead. For Lee it was her 11
th home run of the season and the 38-run batted in of the season. The Lady Hawks came right back and tied the game in the fourth using two hits and a sac bunt to make it a 5-4 game.
Shorter took the lead in the fifth inning as nine batters came to the plate. A solo home run, two walks and three more singles scored five runs and gave them a three-run lead which they would not relinquish. Macha scored one more run as Sidney Lee drove her in but the lady Flames lost 9-6.
Lee had four RBI on the day with Scalzo and Bohl each adding one as well. Macha was 3-for-4 from the plate in the loss. Shorter scored nine runs with only five of them being earned.
Game 2
The Lady Flames closed out the season on a high note as they shutout the Lady Hawks 5-0. Hayden Gardner got the start and threw two innings of shutout softball. Natalie Pruitt threw in relief and went five innings and only gave up two hits while striking out three. She finished the season with an 8-7 record.
Sidney Lee had four more RBI in the win. In the bottom of the third, Macham Annalyn Ormsby, and Scalzo all singled to load the bases. That was followed by a bases clearing double from Lee to give the Lady Flames a 3-0 lead. In the bottom of the fifth, Lee drove in Macha for her fourth RBI. She then scored on a RBI double from Javaria Smith to make the score 5-0.
Lee had ten hits in the game with the first four batters of Macha, Ormsby, Scalzo, and Lee securing four of them.
The Lady Flames ended the season with a 15-34 record and 10-20 record in Gulf South Conference play.
