CLEVELAND, Tenn. -The Lee University softball team let a lead slip away late and fell to the University of Montevallo 3-2 on Thursday evening at Butler Field. The Lady Flames led 2-0 until the sixth inning when the Falcons used three hits to take the lead. Montevallo was then able to hold on for the win. With the loss, the Lady Flames fell to 9-29 and 4-15 in Gulf South Conference play.
The Lady Flames' first run came in the second inning when a single from Ana Mach scored Laney Harris and gave Lee the lead. They doubled the lead in the fourth inning when a single from Annalynn Ormsby scored Harris a second time.
In the circle, Madison Barnett had a perfect game going until the sixth inning. Alisha Lanyon had a double off the third base bag that broke up the perfect game. Two batters later, she came to score on a Shelby Sloan sacrifice fly. Taylor Robinson gave Montevallo the 3-2 lead on a two-run home run.
The Lady Flames outhit Montevallo eight to four but left ten runners on base to just one for the Falcons. Lee left the bases loaded in two different innings.
Madison Barnett went seven innings in the loss. She only allowed four hits and had seven strikeouts. Morntevallo used three pitchers with Taylor Lloyd earning the win for the Falcons.
Lee will take on Montevallo with a double header on Friday. April 7with the first pitch scheduled for 1 PM.
