Flames Post Three Provisionals and Two Lee Records At Flames Invitational

Lee Places First Overall With 102.5 Points

RESULTS

CLEVELAND, Tenn. – The Lee University men's track & field team met three provisional marks and set two Lee records on their way to scoring the most points at the Flames Invitational presented by Jones Properties this weekend at the Ray Conn Sports Complex.

The Flames accumulated 102.5 points to outscore Alabama Huntsville (80) by 22.5 points. Wingate University was third (76.5) with Belmont University finishing fourth with 63 points.

Cale Kassen led the way with provisional marks in the 110 and 400-meter hurdles. He won the 110 hurdles with a time of 13.67 seconds to meet the standard of 14.49. His time is the third-best reported among NCAA DII athletes so far this season. Kassen also won the 400 hurdles. His time of 53.22 was 0.10 seconds under the provisional mark and put him at No. 26 in DII.

Aaron Himes placed second in the 5000-meter run with a provisional qualifying time of 14:06.10. The time to beat in the 5000 is 14:25.34. Himes' time puts him No. 7 among those qualifying in the event.

Matthew Black and Camden Williams set a couple Lee records in the throwing events. Black set the new standard of 47.19 meters in the hammer throw, while Williams recorded a distance of 48.90 meters to set a new record in the discus throw.

Nokia Masengu was the lone Lee entry in the 100-meter dash. He finished fourth with a time of 11.08 seconds. Masengu was also Lee's top finisher in the 200 with a time of 21.92 for 11th place. Stacen Cunningham crossed the finish line of the 400 at 50.96 for 12th place.

Titus Lagat led three other Flames to the finish of the 800-meter run. Lagat crossed the finish line first overall at 1:52.22. Jacob Hatcher (1:55.78) was 15th, Ryan Lovelace (1:56.66) placed 24th and Roberto Fajardo was 30th (1:57.34).

The Flames entered six runners in the 1500-meter run with three of those finishing in the top eight. Fajardo was fourth at 3:52.77, Lovelace (3:53.64) was seventh and Hatcher (3:53.86) was right behind in eighth. Evan Moore stopped the clock at 3:59.51 for 22nd. Caleb Guthery (3:59.84) was 23rd and Lagat finished 25th (4:01.12).

Moore and Guthery also ran the 3000-meter steeplechase. Moore completed the race in 9:19.82 for eighth place. Guthery finished 10th after crossing the line at 9:34.39.

Following Himes in the 5000 were Matthew Fowler, Jon Fielding Stogner and Silas Eckenroad. Fowler finished eighth (14:25.98) and Stogner (14:27.38) was ninth. Eckenroad completed the race at 14:48.78 to claim 25th position.

Three Flames participated in the 10000-meter run. Adan Rodriguez was Lee's top finisher at 30:31.50 (22nd). Ezekiel Harless placed 53rd (31:57.46) and Stephen Clark was 76th (33:03.73).

Caleb Long, Cameron Stine and Cunningham joined Kassen in the 110 hurdles. Long was 12th (15.90) with Stine (16.74) close behind in 14th. Cunningham's time of 17.36 was good for 17th.

Niquaine Henry joined Kassen in the top four of the 400 hurdles. Kassen won the event with Henry finishing fourth with a time of 55.67.

Kassen and Stine finished in the top five of the high jump. Kassen cleared 1.95 meters for third place and Stine cleared 1.90 meters to finish fifth. Riley Margene was successful at 4.30 meters to place third in the pole vault. Long cleared 3.85 meters to earn fifth place.

Long was Lee's top finisher in the long jump. He recorded a jump of 5.96 meters to finish 14th. Myles Mann lept 5.94 meters for 15th and Kassett placed 20th with a mark of 5.69 meters.

Williams and Black were joined by Braxton Philpott in the shot put. Williams finished fifth with a throw of 14.05 meters. Black was 16th with a toss of 12.34 meters and Philpott's throw of 10.93 meters put him in 21st.

Four Flames joined Williams, who finished second, in the discus. Philpott placed 11th after throwing the discus 38.66 meters. Long was 18th with a throw of 35.45 meters, Black finished 21st with a mark of 34.84 meters and Stine hit 28.74 meters for 28th.

Williams and Philpott were 12th and 13th, respectively, in the hammer throw to follow up Black's sixth-place performance. Williams posted a throw of 38.78 meters and Philpott recorded a throw of 38.76 meters.

Lee had four athletes in the javelin with three claiming top 10 finishes. Long's throw of 50.07 meters placed him in second. Eli Brooks was seventh with a throw of 49.21 meters. Stine placed 16th with a mark of 43.41 meters and Margene's throw of 38.41 meters put him in 16th.
