Flames Ready To Battle in NCAA Regional

CLEVELAND, Tenn.-The fourth-ranked Lee men's golf team will begin defense of its 2022 NCAA DII National Golf Championship when it travels to Fort Lauderdale, Florida for regional competition on the Grande Oaks Golf Club course. The 54-hole event is hosted by sixth-ranked Nova Southeastern on May 11-13.

Lee, West Florida and Nova are three teams ranked in Top 10 in the loaded field joined byBarry, University of Tampa, Saint Leo, Lynn and Florida Southern from the state of Florida while Shorter and Spring Hill make up the rest of the 12-team field. Individually Lee junior Beck Burnette is listed as second best in all of DII with just over an average of 69 strokes per 18-hole outing.

According to the NCAA release, "At a minimum, the top three teams and the top two student-athletes, not with a team, from each region will advance to the finals, May 22-26 at Avalon Lakes in Warren, Ohio. The remaining eight-team berths will be allocated based on the regions represented in the prior year's head-to-head medal play portion of the championships, with the maximum number of teams from a given region capped at seven. The finals will be hosted by the Mountain East Conference and Avalon Lakes at The Grand Resort."

"Our guys have had a great season, but I know this is the time of year they have really been looking forward to," said Lee Director of Golf and Head Coach John Maupin. "This team works very hard, and they love highly competitive situations. We really try and lean into that this time of year and trust our preparation. This is the strongest field of the year. We know what it takes to advance, and we are grateful we have the opportunity ahead of us."
