Hola, amigos!
Today, we started off our day by eating an early breakfast in the hotel. Then we left and traveled to play in Santo Domingo in the Olympic Center Main Arena! Our game was at 9:30 AM. We played against a local Dominican team and won!
After the game, Bailey Burgess and Baylee Delbridge bravely stood up in front of everyone and shared their emotional testimonies. One of the other team's players also got up and shared their story with the help of our translator. She thanked us for coming and sharing our faith because she was also a Christian.
After our game, we went and got a little taste of home eating pizza and drinking Coke at Pizzareli's in Santo Domingo! You can just imagine how excited we all were.
After eating, we went and did a little sightseeing at "Old Town." We got to explore the rich history of the Dominican Republic. We visited a monument with statues and memorials of well-respected generals and war heroes that fought to gain the independence of the Dominican Republic. We also got to see the very first Cathedral built in the America's and got a glimpse of Christopher Columbus' house. We had a lot of fun in "Old Town" including feeding pigeons (some were brave enough to let them land in their hand!) and dancing with Merengue Bands on the street.
During all our fun, we got to experience the events of the Dominican rainy season as it began to downpour. While waiting for our bus driver to return, we did our best to find shelter in tunnels and under archways. We still made the most of it by playing in puddles (more like rivers) and smiling through having wet socks and shoes.
When our bus driver finally returned, we headed back to the Score House to eat dinner. It was spaghetti! We had a full day of Italian food, and no one was complaining about it one bit. We can't wait to see what other surprises are in store for the rest of this week. We are so incredibly thankful to be here and be able to spread God's love with this country. We are also thankful for the moments that we get to praise Him through the storms…literally. Thank you for following along!
Buenas noches!
