BANNER ELK,NC. –Behind the head of Ryan Chouyouti, the Lee University earned their second victory of the season defeating Chowan University 2-0 on Saturday afternoon. Chouyouti scored both goals for the Flames on headers to lead the Flames past the Hawks..

The Chowan Hawks had the early pressure keeping the Flames on their toes with a couple of early shots that went wide. The Flames settled in as Eamon McLaughlin took the first shot for Lee and forced a save from Chowan's goalkeeper Chase Jensen.

Lee got on the board in the 16
th minute when Fabian Navarro sent a perfect cross into the box and Chouyouti headed it into the top left corner of the goal. For Navarro, he collected his third assist of the season which is halfway to his mark from last season (6).

Eight minutes later, Matias Siems stole the ball and then sent a cross into the box where Chouyouti was waiting to head in his second goal of the game. Chouyouti doubled his career goal total in the game, scoring one goal in his first two seasons at Lee..

While both teams had chances the rest of the game, neither was able to find the back of the net. The Flames outshot Chowan 17-7 in the contest while also taking nine shots on goal to the Hawks four. Five different Flames took shots and were led by McLaughlin who had five attempts on goal.

Lee's goalkeeper Robert Bailey had four saves while Jensen had seven for Chowan.

It is the second straight year the Lee has started the season with a 2-0 record.

The Flames will hit the road again on Wednesday, September 6, as they will head to Tigerville, S.C. to take on North Greenville University at 7 PM.

Coach Derek Potteiger's Thoughts:

"First and foremost we will take the win. To have to travel out of state for a Saturday afternoon game, after playing late Thursday night, we will always be proud of a win."

"In addition to that, we keep developing as a team and I'm proud of the guys for the work they are putting in as a group while we still grow and establish our complete identity. "

Now we will rest for a day and get ready to get back after it on Monday. We have two more important games that we must use affectively to get us ready for the opening weekend of GSC play."
