Flames Fly Past Falcons

CLEVELAND, Tenn. –Noah Boler-Kyle was perfect from the field for Lee Unviersity and Willie Walton tied his career high on the way to a 93-69 route of the University of Montevallo on Saturday afternoon in Walker Arena. Boler-Kyle was 7-for-7 from the field scoring 20 points while Walton added 18 to lead the Flames. With the win, the Flames got the season sweep over the Falcons and improved their record to 13-5 and 10-5 in Gulf South Conference action.

The game started slowly for the Flames scoring just one point in the first four minutes of the contest as the Falcons pulled out to and early 7-1 lead. But a three-point shot for Tariq Daughton got the Flames running. They went on a quick 10-0 run and forced a timeout from Montevallo.

Lee continued to push the tempo and quickly made it a double-digit lead. Boler-Kyle led the way scoring 18 of his 20 points in the first half and Walton had 12 points in the first 20 minutes Lee led it 40-27 in the second half.

The second period had the two teams trading buckets early on before once again Lee started to pull away. Lee shot 61% in the second half scoring 53 points while the Falcons only had 41. Freshman Jamarcus Wilkins scored 10 points in the game to be the third player to be in double- digits for Lee

The Flames were 32-for-56 from the field in the contest for 57%. Lee had 38 points in the paint and 46 points coming from the bench in the win.

Lee will go to Alabama for two road contests. They will start with a matchup on Thursday, February 1 in Livingston, Ala. The Flames will take on the University of West Alabama who are tied with Lee for third place in the GSC. The Tigers are a perfect 9-0 at home this season.

Coach Bubba Smith's Thoughts:

"Every conference win is a big win. We competed well but there is still a lot of room for our team improve. A lot of good contribution from the who lineup."

"Overall our defense was good in the game. In the first half we gave up too many second chance opportunities and we cleaned it up well in the second half."

"If you want to make a run down the stretch of the season you have to rely on your depth. Our younger guys are getting better especially on the defensive end. Sometimes the starters can't always get it done and if we can rely on our bench it is better for us."
