Volleyball Evens Record with 4-Set Victory

JACKSON, Tenn. – After falling in the first set, the Lee University volleyball team bounced back to win three straight sets and post a road victory over host Union University on Tuesday evening 3-1 (23-25, 25-17, 25-23, 25-22). The final set was deadlocked at 22. Coach Christa Fabre ordered a timeout and her Lady Flames proceeded to score three straight points in wrapping up the match.

The Lady Flames evened their record at 8-8 overall and 2-2 in GSC play. Union dropped to 2-10, 0-3. Lee's road adventures will continue on Friday when they move down to Clinton, Mississippi and face Mississippi College at 6 p.m.

Carmen Perez led the winners with another double-double, 13 kills and 16 digs. However, it was the top performance of the season by Grace Mazzocca that played a key role in the victory. She knocked down 12 kills and had a solid hitting percentage of .450 and also came away with four blocks.

Freshman Payton Danley followed closely with 10 slams and a .350 hitting mark. Freshmen Berra Soyler and Madison Dahl set their teammates up with 25 and 16 assists apiece. Soyler also had three aces. Dahl got into the double-double category with 11 digs and was joined by Izzy Denton who had 13 digs and four aces. All totaled, the Lady Flames had 17 key aces in the victory.

The Bulldogs got 12 kills from Reese Owens and Vanja Stefanovic. Ashley Pruitt dished off 36 assists and had four aces. Owens also had a double-double with 18 digs while Dylan Tolliver contributed 21 digs.

Coach Christa Fabre's Thoughts:

"We got off to a slow start this match but it was good to see our team handle tight moments a little differently than we have in the past and come out on top. Our serving was a crucial part of our success. A lot to learn and grow from but proud of our team for taking care of business on the road."
