Volleyball Falls in Four Sets to West Florida

CLEVELAND, Tenn. - Coach Christa Fabre's young Lee Lady Flames battled GSC's unbeaten University of West Florida for four-sets, 3-1 (25-22, 20-25, 25-15, 25-20) before falling inside Walker Arena on Friday evening. It was only the third time in conference play this season that the Argonauts had been forced to play a four-set match. With the victory the visitors improved to 9-0 in league play and 14-5 overall while the Lady Flames dropped to 5-4, 11-10.

Freshman Payton Danley tied her career high with 13 kills, while Carmen Perez and Sara Palumbo recorded nine kills each. Naomi Hockless knocked down five. However, it was not a great night in the attack department overall for the Lady Flames as they finished with a .109 mark.

Berra Soyler had 23 assists and Madison Dahl dished off 12. Izzy Denton established her new career dig record with 25.

The Argonauts got a double-double from Emily Breazeale who had 15 kills and 13 digs. Jenna Zyeia also produced double-digit figures with 12 kills and 10 blocks. Gabi Moulton set up her teammates with 48 key assists.

However, it was Caiden Joyner who was a key figure in the final set, coming up with seven of her nine kills for the entire match.

The Lady Flames will return to conference action on Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. and will host Valdosta State University. The Lady Blazers were in Nashville on Friday and claimed a 3-0 victory over Trevecca Nazarene.

Coach Christa Fabre's Thoughts:

"West Florida is a good team and they made some adjustments in that third set. They really tried to shutdown Sara and Carmen and we had others step up. It is good for us to see what we are capable of and if we can keep our composure. If we can handle our business that way we can compete with the best.
