Balanced Team Effort Gives Volleyball Sweep over Choctaws

CLEVELAND, Tenn. - Playing their best team volleyball of the season, Lee University posted a 3-0 (25-23, 25-16, 25-22) sweep over visiting Mississippi College in GSC play at Walker Arena on Thursday evening. The bounce-back victory improved the Lady Flames to 9-6 in conference play and 15-12 overall. The Choctaws dropped to 10-5 and 12-11.

Lee returns to action on Friday evening and will host West Alabama in the annual Volley For A Cure celebration. The event will begin at 7 p.m. It will also be Senior Night and the Lady Flames will honor their lone senior, Julia Davis.

As a team, the Lady Flames registered a solid .351 attack percentage. Freshman Payton Danley led the way with 13 kills in 25 attempts (.400%). Davis recorded her top performance of the year with 10 kills in 20 tries (.450%). Freshman Brynna Sands was all over the court and had eight kills and a .304 attack percentage. Grace Mazzocca and Naomi Hockless had five kills apiece.

Sophomore Berra Soyler took care of her teammates by delivering 34 assists. Izzy Denton came up with 17 big-time digs to lead the way in that department. All totaled, Lee had 53 digs to only 35 for the Choctaws. Reagan Foles and Mikayla Buhr had two aces each while Danley, Mazzocca and Sands had two blocks apiece.

The Choctaws were led by Lydia Paulette who had 14 kills and became Mississippi College's all-time kill leader in that department. Ali Wiggins added 21 assists and Samarin Kipple was the dig leader with 11.

Coach Christa Fabre's Thoughts:

"After all we have faced this week and this season that was a pivotal win for the team. They experienced what that are capable of if they just go out and compete. They played clean volleyball from start to finish tonight and from players that hadn't done it all season. We hit at such a high percentage today and it looked like they were enjoying themselves out there tonight."
