15th-Ranked Women's Basketball Defeats Kentucky State 77-64

CLEVELAND, Tenn. - Lee University women's basketball team improved to 5-0 with a 77-64 win over Kentucky State inside Walker Arena on Saturday afternoon. The Lady Flames will conclude their pre-Thanksgiving schedule on Monday when they host Covenant College at 5:30 p.m.

Lee got off to a slow start (14-8) in the first period but picked up the pace, outscoring the visitors 23-11 in the second period and coasted the remainder of the contest in the win over the Division II SIAC opponent. The Lady Flames are currently ranked 15th in the D2 CSC Women's Basketball Poll.

All 14 Lee players that were dressed saw action on Saturday and nine played double-digit minutes. Mallory Hampton was 8-of-8 from the charity stripe and 2-of-3 from behind the arc in finishing with 18 points. Anna Muhonen got off to a quick start and tallied 14 points while Haylee Johnson added 11 points and dished off six assists.

The Lady Flames lost the rebounding battle 40-29. Addison Smith was Lee's leading rebounder with nine while Baylee Delbridge came off the bench to tally 11 points and Mia Hurst hit a pair of 3-pointers and also tallied eight points.

Lee shot 43% (26-of-61) from the field but made just 7-of-29 3-pointers (24%). They went to the line 21 times and converted 18. The Thorobreds made 18-of-49 shots overall (37%) and 3-of-15 triples (20%). The visitors were awarded 22 freebies and converted 15.

Aaliyah Hayes paced Kentucky State in scoring with 12 markers. Naja Fenelon added nine and Shannon Niles totaled eight points. Khalia Bryant was the leading rebounder with seven and Fenelon pulled down six.

Coach Marty Rowe's thoughts:
"Our effort was really good today, I thought we handled Kentucky State's physicality on both ends. We've got to continue to get better in certain areas, but overall we did some really good things. There is still a lot of improvement for this team and I'm excited to watch us play Monday."
