Track Meets Three New Provisional Marks at Music City Challenge

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Lee University track & field teams combined to record three new NCAA Division II Provisional marks this weekend at the Music City Challenge held Friday and Saturday at the Vanderbilt University Recreation Center.

Liza Kellerman and Zoe Brickley each met the standard in the mile with Kellerman's time of 4:55.04 nearly four seconds behind her best mark of the season (4:51.14) set at the Vanderbilt Invitational on January 19. Brickley crossed the finish line at 4:56.56 to beat the provisional time by 0.29 seconds. Kellerman placed 34th and Brickley was 42nd. Danielle Horter finished 98th with a time of 5:11.08.

Hannah Wright added a provisional mark in the 60-meter hurdles. She stopped the clock at 8.75 seconds in the qualifying round to meet the necessary time of 8.84 seconds. Wright then improved her standing with a ninth-place time of 8.65 seconds in the preliminaries. Lily Brown was 35th (9.35) and Sydney White finished 40th (9.53) in the event.

Janay Ryan completed the 400-meter dash in 58.11 seconds to finish 24th. McKenna Cavanaugh was 20th (2:15.76) in the 800-meter run.

Titus Lagat was the lone Flame to reach or improve upon a provisional qualification mark. He completed the 800-meter with a 19th-place time of 1:51.58. The time to beat was 1:52.46. Doniven Jackson placed 15th (6.87) in the 60-meter dash preliminaries and was ninth in the qualifying round with a time of 6.90 seconds.

Matthew Fowler and Aaron Himes were Lee's representatives in the seeded 3000-meter run. Fowler was 22nd (8:19.19) and Himes came in right behind at 23rd (8:19.97). In the unseeded race, Owen Pearce finished 20th (8:26.97) and Luke Gaddis (8:32.12) was 29th.

The distance medley relay team of Ryan Lovelace, Justin Steele, Jacob Hatcher and Lagat were third out of five teams. The foursome combined for a time of 9:51.67 to beat the provisional mark of 10:03.10. That time was nearly four seconds slower than the top time posted by a Lee team this season. Lovelace, Lagat, Hatcher and Niquaine Henry posted a time of 9:47.81 at the Boston University John Thomas Terrier Classic on January 26.

The Lady Flames and Flames will travel to Birmingham, Ala., on Thursday and Friday for the GSC Indoor Track & Field Championships at the Birmingham CrossPlex.
