Lady Flames Tame Lynx

CLEVELAND, Tenn. – The Lee Women's Lacrosse team defeated Rhodes College, 13-8, on Saturday afternoon at the Ray Conn Sports Complex.

Rhodes (0-1) got the scoring started a minute-and-a-half into the contest and doubled up just 20 seconds later to jump out to an early lead.

Lee (4-1) responded by rattling off four straight goals including a Kamille Kremakau goal with six seconds remaining to take a, 4-2, edge after the first.

The Lynx answered again with a goal 20 seconds into the second period to cut the lead to one but it was all the Lady Flames the rest of the half.

Hannah Vecsey put in her 11th goal of the year to make it, 5-3, and a pair of man-up goals stretched the lead to four. Brittney White capped the scoring in the half with under a minute to take a five-goal advantage into the break.

Rhodes trimmed the lead to two, with three straight goals to start the period taking advantage of two Lee yellow cards.

The hosts responded with three goals of their own and the two teams traded goals in the fourth for the Lady Flames to hold on for the, 13-8, victory.

Emma Bailey and Callie Curtis paced Lee with three goals each. Kylee Kangas, White, and Kremaku all had two scores a piece. Vecsey led the charge with two assists, while White had eight draw controls and Kaleigh Bernard had five ground balls.

Avery Burke and Chloe Parker had three goals each for the Lynx and Molly Martiner had a pair of assists. Olivia Wood paced her squad with six ground balls and Caroline Kardian had seven draw controls.

Bernard got the start in goal for Lee making eight saves on 16 shots. Wood was in the cage for Rhodes gathering nine saves while allowing 13 goals.

The Lady Flames will be back in action on Saturday, February 24 as they travel to Belmont Abbey at 12 p.m.

Lee returns home on February 29 as they host Lynn beginning at 5 p.m.

Coach Smith's Thoughts:
Proud of our team for focusing on us today and coming out with the win.

The defense did a good job of playing big and knocking down passing. Hannah Nee killed it by coming up with ground balls and in transition for us. Kaleigh Bernard was solid in goal and had some clutch saves when we needed them.

The offense was a total team effort with 6 different scorers.

We are excited to have a full week to focus on us and fix some little things before we head to Belmont Abbey next Saturday.
