Lady Flames Fall to #7 Rollins College

CLEVELAND, Tenn. –A strong second quarter from Rollins College led the Tars past the Lee University women's lacrosse team 21-12 on Tuesday evening at the Ray Conn Sports Complex. The Tars outscored the Lady Flames 7-2 in the second period to help them have a 14-5 lead at the halftime break.

The Tars scored just a minute and twenty seconds into the contest on the first of six goals for Lauren Noonan for Rollins College. The Tars added a second goal before Hannah Vecsey scored the first goal for Lee. That was as close as Lee would get in the contest. Rollins added two goals to make it 5-1. Brittney White and Makenna Luzier each scored to make it 5-3 with 2:03 left in the first quarter.

Over the next 12 minutes, Rollins would score eight straight goals to make it a 13-3 lead. Vecsey and Maggie Luzier would each tally one more goal to be down 14-5 at the break.

Both teams scored seven goals in the second half as Maggie Luzier, White, Noelle Harrington, and Katelynn Sweeney all scored for the Lady Flames in the second half.

The Tars outshot the Lady Flames 42-25 in the contest including 35-22 with shots on goal. Lee had 10 turnovers in the first quarter but them only committed nine the rest of the game.

The Lady Flames will be back in action on Saturday, February 10 at 2 PM at the RCC as they will host Tusculum University.

Coach Megan Smith's Thoughts:

"All credit to Rollins, they are #7 in the nation so we knew it would be a hard test and proud of the team for giving their best."

"We have some things to adjust on. Need to work on scooping up ground balls and cutting down the turnovers before our next game."

"We will think about this one tonight and then turn our attention to Tusculum and how we can improve on Saturday."
