LAKELAND, FLA.- In a matchup with the #7 Florida Southern College, the Lee University lacrosse team committed 27 turnovers and could not keep up with the attack. The Lady Flames fell 19-10 Thursday evening to the Mocs which brought their record to 6-4 on the season.
The Mocs started off very quickly as they won the opening draw and Jackie Stollar scored just fifteen seconds into the match. About a minute later, Maggie Luzier tied the game on a free position shot. After about seven minutes ran off the clock, Stollar and Ellie Griffin scored two goals within seventy seconds apart to give FSC the 3-1 lead. The Mocs added a man-up goal from Griffin and a man-down goal from Madison Tare to lead 5-1. Luzier scored her second goal of the game with just about one minute left in the first period to make it 5-2.
FSC started the second quarter quickly. They scored three in the first three and half minutes to go up 8-2. Just a few minutes later they added two more goals to go up 10-2. Lee's first goal of the second quarter came with six minutes left when Callie Curtis scored her 23
rd goal of the season. Noelle Harrington made it back-to-back goals just 30 seconds later. FSC then responded with three more goals and led 13-4 at halftime.
The second half was played evenly as both teams scored six goals. Curtis and Kamille Kremkau each scored to make it 13-6 early in the third quarter. Harrington and Brittney White both also had a goal apiece and Curtis scored her third goal in the quarter.
The fourth quarter only had one goal apiece from each team. Griffin scored for FSC with 13:58 left in the contest and then didn't score again the rest of the contest. The lone goal for the Lady Flames had Curtis score her fourth of the contest as Lee fell 19-10.
FSC outshot Lee 39-16 with a 29-14 advantage with shots on goal. White had 12 draw control wins for Lee and they had 17 to just 16 for the Mocs. Kaleigh Bernard ended up with four saves and Caleigh Smith had six saves. Each goal keeper played for 30 minutes in the contest.
The Lady Flames will return home to face Young Harris College on Thursday, March 21 at 5 PM at the Ray Conn Sports Complex.
