Lady Flames Fall in Double Header to Trevecca

CLEVELAND, Tenn.- On a very sunny Wednesday afternoon, the Lee University Lady Flames softball team took on the Trevecca Nazarene University Trojans softball team in a double header that ended up being very one sided. The Trojans took game one by a final score of 6-3 and game two by a score of 13-3.

Game 1

Trevecca took the early lead in the top of the first inning 3-0 with a three-run homer. In the second inning Lee played extremely well defensively and were able to get two quick outs in the top of the second inning without allowing a single run.

The Trojans dominated the third inning by scoring three runs and only allowing Lee's Alexa Scalzo to score a run in during the bottom of the third inning. Trojans' pitcher Ashlan Sensing played extremely well against the Flames with 11 strikeouts. Six of those were within the first four innings of the game.

However, in innings four through seven, the Lady Flames found some momentum and made plays defensively. Lee started the fourth inning strong with a quick outfield catch by senior outfielder Annalynn Orsmby. The fifth and sixth innings had solid pitching from Abigail Welbaum. She did only allow one runner on base in the fifth. Or in the sixth she also did not allow a runner on base.

Scalzo went 3-for-4 at the plate in game one to lead the Lady Flames. She scored two of the three runs for Lee.

 Game 2

Junior Alaina Watson started game number two against the Trojans. She started off well with a quick strike out in the first inning which kept the Trojans from scoring at all during the first inning.

The Trojans gained momentum in the second inning and continued to play well for the rest of the game. A triple helped bring three runs home for Trevecca. This caused the Flames to use three more pitchers throughout the rest of the game. Katie Willoughby, Hayden Gardner, and Ava Perkins all saw action in the match.

The Trojans matched their run total with the inning they were in, in both the fourth and fifth innings. However, Lee was still able to keep the game from being a shutout with scores in the fifth inning from Kyra Vieux, Alexa Scalzo, and Ava Perkins. The last run came on an error by Trevecca's shortstop.

The Lady Flames are set to take on Christian Brothers in a doubleheader on Saturday, March 23 at 1 PM.
