YOUNG HARRIS, Ga.- A six-run seventh inning gave the Lee University softball team the edge in the second game against Young Harris College on Wednesday afternoon. The strong inning gave them a 13-6 win in game two. They rebounded after falling to YHC in walkoff fashion 7-6 in game one of the double header.
GAME 1
The Lady Flames got on the scoreboard first when Rylie Goodridge hit a two-run homer scoring Hailey Simco to give Lee the 2-0 lead. It was the fourth home run of the season for Goodridge. YHC answered right back in the bottom of the first. They used three hits and an error to score six runs to take the lead.
After a couple of scoreless innings, Javaria Smith cut into the deficit. She doubled to right center field and Shelby Cole and Simco both scored, and it was a 6-4 game after four innings.
The sixth inning had Smith drive in Alexa Scalzo and Laney Harris sacrifice fly in Simco to tie the game at 6-6. Then in the bottom of the sixth, YHC hit back-to-back doubles to bring the winning win across home plate as the Mountain Lions won game one 7-6.
Both teams had nine hits in the contest. Simco, Smith, Harris, and Kyra Vieux each got two hits. Smith had three RBI while Simco scored three times.
GAME 2
Lee struck first once again in the top of the first inning when Smith drove Simco. The Mountain Lions answered once again with three runs in the first. They used three hits, a hit by a pitch, and a walk to take the lead.
Lee got one run back in the top of the second with a solo home run from Bella Galloway. It was the fifth home run of the season for Galloway. Lee tied the game in the third inning when Scalzo scored after Simco stole second base.
YHC went back on top in the bottom of the fourth when Grace Young hit a three-run home run with two outs. The Lady Flames got one run back in the top of the fifth, when Alyson Jarvi drove in Simco with the bases loaded.
Lee retook the lead in the sixth inning. With the bases loaded, Simco grounded out to third base but brought Annalyn Ormsby home for the fifth run of the game for Lee. Two batters later, Goodridge doubled to right field to score Vieux and Scalzo and the Lady Flames led 7-6.
Lee broke the game wide open in the seventh with six more runs. Ormsby doubled to score to score Galloway to get the scoring started. Then Ava Perkins singled to score Ormsby. Goodridge had another RBI on a bases loaded walk. Harris then added runs on a single that brought Simco and Scalzo home. The final run came on an error. Smith reached safely and Goodridge scored the final run to make it 13-6.
Goodridge had three RBI in the win while Ormsby had three hits. Scalzo and Simcoe ached scored three runs.
Olivia Tyson earned the win going all seven innings and giving up six runs on nine hits while striking out four.
The Lady Flames will return home on Saturday, April 6 at 1 PM. They will host the University of West Alabama in a three-game series.
