CLEVELAND, Tenn. – The 25
th-ranked Lee University men's tennis team ended a two-game losing streak with a 7-0 win over Delta State University Friday afternoon at the DeVos Tennis Center. The Flames evened its GSC record at 2-2 and improved to 7-2 overall. The Statesmen fell 2-11 and 0-5 in league play.
Filipe Krohn and Stefan Mos made quick work of Harry Browning and Andrej Komnenic 6-0 at No. 2 doubles. Wihan van der Merwe and Jace Sanford took down Hector Ortiz and Tom Rance 6-1 at No. 3 doubles to secure the doubles point. Quinn Groenendijk and Jip Langerhuizen completed the doubles sweep with a 6-4 margin against Jacob Lubbe and Sebastian Hernandez.
Groenendijk opened singles competition with a 6-1, 6-1 defeat of Hernandez at No. 2 singles. Krohn beat Komnenic by the same scores to put Lee ahead 3-0. The Flames clinched the team win after van der Merwe claimed a second set tiebreaker 7-4 to win his match with Browning 6-4, 7-6.
Mos won both sets 6-4 to hand Lubbe a straight set loss. Rytis Razminas won at No. 5 singles 6-4 and 6-4 against Rance. Brad Sy-A-Foek completed the shutout with 6-1 scores in both sets against Christopher Albert.
The Flames play their fourth match in seven days on Sunday against Young Harris College. The non-conference contest is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
