Flames Take Down Young Harris 7-0

CLEVELAND, Tenn. – The 25th-ranked Lee University men's tennis team took a quick step out of conference play to shut out Young Harris College 7-0 Sunday afternoon at the DeVos Tennis Center. The Flames improved to 8-2 overall, while the Mountain Lions fell to 5-11.

Quinn Groenendijk and Jip Langerhuizen opened the doubles scoring with a 6-4 win over Noah Pawirodirjo and Mason Harmon. Wihan van der Merwe and Jace Sanford held off Greyson Williams and Gregor Gottein 7-5 at No. 3 doubles to secure the doubles point for Lee. Filipe Krohn and Stefan Mos posted the same score against Samuel Guzon and Nills Vercruyssen to complete the sweep.

The Flames went up 2-0 with van der Merwe's 6-2, 6-0 win over Harmon at No. 1 singles. Krohn won 6-0 and 6-2 against Williams in the third position. Groenendijk clinched the team victory with a 6-0, 6-1 defeat of Pawirodirjo at No. 2 singles.

Razminas Rytis beat Gottein 6-1, 6-3 at No. 5 singles. Langerhuizen dropped just one game to Guzon to win his No. 4 singles match. Jackson Vaughan completed the shut out with a straight set win at No. 6 singles against Holden Hall. Vaughan won their opening set 6-2 and used a 7-4 tiebreaker to win the second set 7-6.

The Flames will take a couple days off before hosting Lincoln Memorial University on Wednesday at the DeVos Tennis Center. The non-conference match is scheduled for 2 p.m.
