Lady Flames Defeat Delta State 6-1 to Record 10th Win Of Season

CLEVELAND, Tenn. – The 25th-ranked Lee University women's tennis team remained unbeaten with a 6-1 win over Delta State University Friday afternoon at the DeVos Tennis Center. The Lady Flames moved to 4-0 in the GSC and 10-0 overall. The Statesmen fell to 0-12 and 0-5 in league play.

Maria Penalver Aguilo and Kanna Kobayakawa blanked Angie Moreno and Lara Torres 6-0 at No. 2 doubles. Ashleigh Simes and Aliyah Dwyer, ranked No. 50, claimed a 6-3 win over Elena Palioura and Yasmina Mayer at No. 1 doubles to secure the doubles point. DSU avoided the sweep with a 6-3 win by Maria Caride and Weronika Kaczmarkska at the third position.

Penalver Aguilo was a 6-1, 6-2 winner over Caride to open the singles matches. Simes, the No. 1 ranked singles player, won her first set with Palioura with a 7-5 tiebreaker before riding the momentum for a 6-1 score in the second set.

Mayer claimed a three-set win over Ragastovac to keep the Lady Flames from clinching. Ragastovac won their first set 6-1 before Mayer posted scores of 6-4 and 6-1 to capture the next two sets.

Dwyer held off Moreno 6-3 and 7-5 at No. 4 singles to give Lee the needed fourth point. Kobayakawa defeated Torres 7-5, 6-0 at No. 5 singles and Fuhr beat Cameron Jacob 6-1 and 6-4 at No. 6 singles to supply the final team score.

The Lady Flames play their fourth match in seven days on Sunday against Young Harris College. The non-conference contest is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
