Flames Drop 4-0 Contest to LMU, Return to GSC Action on Friday

HARROGATE, Tenn. – The Lee University baseball team was limited to only three hits but left 11 runners on base in a 4-0 loss to Lincoln Memorial University on Tuesday afternoon. The defeat dropped the Flames to 9-10 on the year while the Railsplitters improved to 10-9. Lee will return to GSC action on Friday and Saturday. The Flames will be hosting Union University. Friday's first pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m.

Isaiah French and Ashton Simmons singled in the loss while Tucker Platt doubled for Lee's hits. The Flames drew six walks. Brock Sisson picked up two free passes while JJ Williams, Luke Collier, Platt and Gavin Baxter were also awarded free passes.

Lee used seven pitchers with Zach Lawson working the first three innings and giving up three hits and no runs. Seth Parker followed for 1.1 frames and allowed a hit and no runs. Matthew Delph got into trouble and retired two outs. He allowed two hits and two earned runs and was charged with the loss. Nelson Smith also gave up a pair of earned runs. Ty Cobb, David White and Hunter Lane followed Smith to the mound and did not allow a run.

The contest was scoreless until the Railsplitters put two on the board in the fifth inning and two more in the sixth. Brooks Hagedorn had a double, single, RBI and scored a run while Kasten Harvey collected two hits. Archer Wong-Shasteen also doubled in the win and Trace Simmons posted two hits and tallied a run.

Cooper Jones started and LMU credited him with the win. In 1.2 innings he did not allow a hit or an earned run, but he walked five Flames. Easton Barnett came on for the rescue. In 2.1 innings he was perfect and had a pair of strikeouts. Dylan Maire was also solid in the win. He hurled three innings and gave up two hits and no earned runs. All totaled, the Railsplitters used five pitchers.

Coach Mark Brew's thoughts:
"We had some decent swings early but never could break through offensively and get a big hit when needed. Our defense was much better than it had been this past week, and our pitching was good enough to keep us in the game and have a chance. Nothing is coming easy right now and we just have to keep working and battling."
