Big Second Half Leads UAH Past Lee In GSC Quarterfinals

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. -The University of Alabama in Huntsville outscored the Lee University men's basketball 51-31 in the second on way to a 86-67 win. The Flames led it by one at the halftime break, but couldn't keep up with the pressure from the Chargers. Lee's season ends in the quarterfinals of the Gulf South Conference tournament and ends the season with a 13-14 record.

Tylon Chatman paced the Flames with 24 points on 8-of-16 shooting. Tim Vaughn added 12 points but was the only other guy in double digits for Lee.

UAH was led by Tommy Murr. The GSC player of the year had 26 points in the win. Three other Chargers scored in double figures.

The Flames led by as many as five in the first half, making four shots from long range. However, Lee only made one three in the second half. On the flip side, UAH made four three-point shots in the first half and seven in the second half.

UAH will now take on Delta State in the semifinals of the GSC championship.

Coach Bubba Smith's Thoughts:

"Tonight did not end the way we wanted it to. I am proud of this group for turning our season around and getting back in the tournament. After the start we had in GSC play this team could have folded but they chose to fight and turn it around and give themselves a chance. There will be a lot of growth that we will have out of this season. I am proud of our seniors for how they led especially when things were hard. Those seniors will be remembered for holding this team together. I am thankful I had the opportunity to coach and mentor then. They are great young men who are going to be successful in whatever they choose to do."
