CLEVELAND, Tenn.– After falling behind 3-0, the Lee University lacrosse team stormed back and scored 12 straight goals on the way to defeating Shorter University 20-5 on Wednesday evening at the Ray Conn Sports Complex. Seven different Lady Flames scored with five scoring three or more goals in the win. Noelle Harrington led the way with five goals and three assists.
Shorter scored three goals in the first five minutes of the contest to take the lead. After a timeout, Lee bounced back and scored four straight goals to lead 4-3 after the first period. Katelyn Sweeney and Kamille Kremkau each scored once, and Hannah Vecsey scored twice.
Shorter scored the first goal of the second quarter at the 11:07 mark and then didn't score again until the 13:21 mark of the fourth period. Lee scored 12 straight goals. Over that run, Harrington had three goals and Vecsey added another. Makenna Luzier, Kamille Kremkau, and Callie Curtis scored as well. Lee outshot Shorter 17-2 in the third quarter.
Shorter scored one more goal in the fourth quarter while Lee had two more from Harrington, one from Vecsey, and one from Emelia Tippett.
The Lady Flames doubled up shots over Shorter holding a 42-21 advantage.
With the win, Lee improved to 4-9 on the season. The Lady Flames will host the University of Alabama in Huntsville on Sunday, April 13 at 1 PM. Before the game, the Lady Flames will celebrate senior day.
