Flames Tame Panthers to Earn Third Win of the Season

COLUMBUS, Ohio – After a tough loss on Thursday night, the Lee University men's soccer team rebounded with a big 4-0 win over Ohio Dominican University on Saturday. The Flames improved to 3-1 on the season.

The Flames dominated the Panthers from start to finish taking 22 shots while ODU only had seven. Lee forced the goalkeeper from Ohio Dominican to make six saves while the two Lee goalkeepers only had one apiece.

Daniel Garvilla got the scoring going in the first half. He took the pass from Nicolas Napoli in the center of the box and slotted it home.

The Flames got two quick goals to start the second half. In the 50th minute Napoli managed to beat the goalkeeper in a one-on-one. Then two minutes later Napoli crossed it to Jesse Thompson who hit a one-time volley into the corner of the net. The final goal for the Flames came in the 74th minute when Farid Chouyouti got his first goal.

Charles Carriglitto started the game and played 77 minutes for the Flames making one save. Joshua Garvilla played the final 13 minutes and made save in net for Lee.

The Flames will head back out on the road next week to start Gulf South Conference play. They will head to the University of Alabama in Huntsville on Thursday, September 18.

Coach Derek Potteiger's Thoughts:
"We knew this was a must win. We were all disappointed with the result on Thursday and so that made this game even more significant. It's never easy to play with that quick of a turnaround and though I thought we could have been sharper in the first half, we really took care of things right away in the 2nd half. So, I am certainly proud of the result, and the full performance; but the 2nd half had the intensity and intentionality that I was really hoping for. I think beyond the results, this weekend carried weight in terms of our team chemistry - we spent a lot of time together and got to know each other in deeper ways, and we also know a lot more about who we are on the field. We are far from complete, but we needed to have a clearer identity as we now have to get ready for the first weekend of the GSC."
