CLEVELAND, Tenn. - Visiting Carson-Newman University battled back from a two-set deficit to hand the Lee University volleyball team a second-straight 3-2 defeat (17-25, 14-25, 25-22, 25-19, 16-14) on Tuesday evening inside Walker Arena. The Eagles improved to 10-0 overall while the Lady Flames slipped to 4-2.
Serving errors proved costly to Coach Christa Fabre's club. The Lady Flames had 15 misplayed serves while the visitors had only six. Lee had 15 more kills (68-53) and a better hitting percentage (.308-.198). They had 66 assists to 50 for the Eagles and 75 digs while Carson-Newman came up with only 60.
The Lady Flames had four players in double-digit kills. Freshman Jasmine Terry and junior Esthefany Rabit had 15 apiece. Rabit finished with a .462 attack mark while Terry was at .393. Payton Danley tallied 12 kills and Jordyn Butler finished with 10. Freshman Sydney Sharpe dished off 34 assists for Lee while Madison Dahl contributed 10. The Lady Flames had 10 different players to come up with digs. Izzy Denton had 15, Sharpe 14 and Mikayla Buhr 11.
The Eagles were led by 22 attacks by Emerson Ashmuhs. Teammate Annie Dziczkowski was the other half of the talented front line. She finished with 14 kills. Blair Cherry set her teammates up with 43 assists. Carson-Newman controlled the net in the final three games and finished with 23 blocks to only nine for Lee. Bella Cardello had six blocks and Ashmuhs totaled five.
The Lady Flames will travel to Palm Beach, Fla. for their next three games and will face Palm Beach Atlantic University, Flagler College and Lynn University. Lynn is the defending Division II National Champion.
