Lee Volleyball Falls in Straight Sets to UAH

Box Score HUNTSVILLE, Ala. –It was a three-set sweep for the University of Alabama in Huntsville on Friday night as they took down the visiting Lee University women's volleyball team. The Lady Flames kept all three sets close (25-19 | 25-19 | 26-24) but were unable to take a single set from the Chargers.

In the first set the Chargers ran out to an early 7-1 lead. The Lady Flames pushed back to make it 8-6 but could not get any closer. UAH led by as many as eight on the way to the 25-19 set win. Lee hit -0.036 in the first set while UAH hit .320.

Early in the second set, the two teams traded the lead before UAH used three different 3-0 runs to pull ahead and take set two 25-19.

The third set featured 13 ties and eight lead changes between the two clubs. Lee managed to get a 19-14 lead before UAH came storming back to tie it at 20-20. Lee had a 24-23 lead and a chance to extend the game, but UAH had a kill two attack errors from Lee ended the game.

UAH had 38 kills and hit .244 in the game while Lee had just 29 kills and hit .071.

Zoe Smith had a double-double for UAH. She had 14 kills and 10 digs while also adding two aces and 1.5 blocks.

Esthefany Rabit led Lee with nine kills and three block assists. Payton Danley had seven kills and two block assists. Madison Dahl and Sydney Sharpe each had 13 assists while Dahl had eight digs.

The Lady Flames fell to 5-6 overall and 1-1 in Gulf South Conference action while UAH improved to 9-2 overall and 1-1 in GSC play.

The Lady Flames will turn right around and take on the University of Montevallo on Saturday, September 27 at 3 PM EST in Montevallo, Ala.

Coach Christa Fabre's Thoughts:
"UAH is a great team, very disciplined and controlled. We waited too late to start competing and had too many unforced errors. This is a great match to learn and grow from and we need to do that quickly for another strong opponent tomorrow."
