Flames and Warhawks Battle to a 2-2 Draw

CLEVELAND, Tenn. - It was a very physical match today between the Lee University Flames and the Auburn University at Montgomery Warhawks as the two teams duked it out to a 2-2 draw.. The Warhawks are nationally ranked, standing at 20th in the national rankings. Lee's record is now 3-3-2 overall and 0-2-2 in conference. AUM's record is 4-1-2 overall and 1-0-1 in conference.

The Flames started off the game strong with a goal by freshmen midfielder, Marius Brandtun, off a corner kick at the 21-minute mark of the first half.

Sean O'Donnell of AUM, clapped back with a goal off a penalty kick with just two minutes remaining in the first half.

Daniel Garvilla, senior forward, scored with a penalty kick at the 70-minute mark in the second half to put the Flames ahead of the Warhawks 2-1

Just as the Flames thought they had the win against their nationally ranked opponent, the Warhawks had an answer with a goal by sophomore forward, Benjamin Hoffman with just four minutes remaining in the game.

The Flames kick off next in Pensacola, Fla. to face the University of West Florida Argos at 8:30 PM this Friday. The Flames won't compete again at home until Saturday, October 11th, when they will take on Lander University at 6 PM.

Coach Derek Potteiger's Thoughts:

"I was really proud of the guys because of the disappointing result on Friday, so to overcome that. I just thought we battled. We stuck in the game, came back from the adversity and took the lead. I just think it's disappointing, but I think all the guys just feel that we've got to be able to closeout games."
