Flames Fall on the Road at Delta State

CLEVELAND, Miss. – Despite four Lee University men's basketball players scoring in double figures, it was not enough as the Flames fell to Delta State University 73-67 on Saturday afternoon. It was the third straight loss for the Flames who fell to 6-7 overall and 3-6 in Gulf South Conference action. Lee will return home for a pair of games starting with Union University on Thursday, January 15 at 7:30 PM.
 
The first half was a three-point competition as DSU made nine and Lee made six. The lead traded hands several times. The Statesmen had a late lead in the first half before Lee ended the period on a short run to trail 42-41 at the break.
 
The early stages of the second half belonged to Lee. They used a 14-0 run to go up 50-42, but Delta State stormed back. They cut into the deficit until they took the lead at 53-52 with 11 minutes left in the game. After that, Lee never led again. Delta State got it all the way out to a nine-point lead. 
 
Unlike the first half, the second half shooting from long range was poor for both teams. DSU was 4-for-13 while Lee was 1-for-5. The only thee point shot in the second half came as time expired at the end of the contest. 
 
Jamarcus Wilkins led the way with 15 points while Zach Gray had 11 points and seven rebounds. Tylon Chatman had 12 points, Tim Vaughn had 11 and Dayveun Anderson had 10.
 
Delta State was 20-for-24 from the free throw line in the game while Lee was 6-for-11. DSU only committed five fouls while Lee had nine.
