Flames Falter on the Road in the Music City

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – It was a tough second half shooting for the Lee University men's basketball team as they got outscored by ten points on the way to a 78-63 loss to Trevecca Nazarene University on Sunday evening. The Flames fell to 6-5 overall and 3-4 in Gulf South Conference play. Trevecca improved to 9-4 and 4-3 in GSC action.

Trevecca came out hot and jumped out to a quick 11-2 lead. They pushed the lead out to a ten-point advantage at 16-6 before the Flames settled in and began to hit shots. Ben Ritger, Willie Walton, and Zach Gray all hit back-to-back-to-back three-point shots to help close the gap.

Both teams shot the ball well in the first half. At one point the teams combined for six straight three-point shots made in a row. Lee managed to take a 31-30 lead with ninety seconds left to go in the first half, but TNU ended the period on a 6-0 run to end the half up 36-31.

The second half was a different story as the Flames struggled to shoot the ball. In the first half, Lee shot 47.8%. In the second half, Lee was 35%. The Flames were just 2-for-10 from long range while Trevecca was 5-for-13.

The Trojans made an early push to get the lead out to 51-38. However, Ritger and Gray managed to get the Flames back to within eight a 59-51, but that was as close as the game got as Trevecca continued to make shots and won the game 73-68.

Trevecca outrebounded the Flames 42-25 in the contest and was 16-of 22 from the free throw line while Lee was 8-for-17.

Fred Bailey had 17 points for TNU while Brett Wright had 15. Tylon Chatman and Ritger each had 13 for the Flames.

The Flames will stay on the road and head to Mississippi College on Thursday night in Clinton, Miss. The Flames have yet to win a GSC game on the road this season.
