Trevecca Grabs Early Lead and Never Looks Back in Win Over Lady Flames

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – It was all Trevecca Nazarene University in a 71-51 win over the Lee University women's basketball team on Sunday afternoon at the Trojan Fieldhouse. The victory improved TNU's Gulf South Conference record to 4-3 and 7-5 overall. The Lady Flames are also 4-3 in league play and will take an 8-4 record as they continue their road adventures at Mississippi College on Thursday.

The Trojans jumped out to a 14-2 lead in the first quarter and never looked back. They led 18-12 at the first stop and the Lady Flames cut the lead down to two points before Trevecca moved out to a 35-25 advantage by halftime. Things got out of control in the third frame as the home team led by 23 points and owned a 54-36 margin after three quarters of play. The Lady Flames had no answers the rest of the way as the Trojans led by as much as 26 points in posting the impressive victory.

It was a rough shooting day all around for Lee. Overall, the team made 16-of-29 field-goal attempts (27%) and hit just 2-of-20 triples (10%). The Lady Flames struggled from the free-throw line, making 17-of-27 attempts (63%).

Milah Williams had a career-high 13 points and also joined Anna Muhonen in leading the rebounding with seven apiece, pacing the Lady Flames in scoring and rebounding. Muhonen was the only other Lee player in double figures with 11 points. Baylee Delbridge fought hard for eight points and five rebounds. The Lady Flames outrebounded the Trojans 36-34.

Jordan Gillies was no doubt the best player on the floor on Sunday afternoon. She made 9-of-15 shots overall, including 2-of-2 from 3-point range and 7-of-7 free throws in finishing with a game-high 27 points. Cheyenne Trotter followed with 19 points and nine rebounds while Jayda Woods was the only other Trevecca player in double figures with 10 markers.

The Trojans shot a solid 52% from the field (24-of-46) and made 4-of-14 triples (29%). They were near perfect from the charity stripe, canning 19-of-21 (91%). Turnovers were not a key factor in the contest. Trevecca committed 15 floor mistakes and Lee 12, but the Trojans gave the Lady Flames problems in the paint, scoring 40 points to only 24 for the visitors.

Coach Marty Rowe's thoughts:
"We were not very good today and Trevecca was much better on each end of the floor. We cannot miss layups and free throws and expect to win in this conference, especially on the road."
