CLINTON, Miss. – The Lee University volleyball team lost their third match in a row with a five-set loss to Mississippi Christian University on Friday evening. Despite having more ills, assists, digs, and blocks the Flames could not earn a road victory.
The story of the night was rallies MC. In the first set, Lee led 22-15 before MC stormed back and scored ten straight points to take the win. In set two, Lee had a 16-10 lead. MC rallied and got within 19-18, but the Flames earned the win 25-20.
In set three, Lee led 11-7 and MC once again went on a run and ended up winning the set 25-22. The fourth set saw Lee lead it wire-to-wire and take a fourth set victory 25-14. In the decisive fifth set, MC started out hot and pushed the lead all the way to 11-5. Lee tried to get close but could not complete the comeback and lost 15-12.
Lee is now 8-7 overall and 4-4 in Gulf South conference action. The Flames are also 1-5 in five set matches this season.
The serve hurt Lee in the loss. MC had four aces while Lee only had two. Lee also had 14 service errors. The Flames had 47 kills and 20 attack errors on the night.
Esthefany Rabit and Olivia Reevey led the way for Lee. Rabit had 12 kills, one block and four digs. Reevey added 10 kills and three blocks. Gunny Brock had eight kills and 19 digs on the day.
Lee will head to the University of West Alabama tomorrow for a matchup with the top team in the GSC. First serve in Livingston, Ala. is set for 2 PM EST.
