Three-Point Shooting Helps Trevecca Post 71-69 Win Over Lady Flames

CLEVELAND, Tenn. - Trevecca Nazarene University used 3-point shooting to battle back in the second half and claimed an important 71-69 GSC victory over Lee University inside Walker Arena on Saturday afternoon. The win improved the Trojans record to 12-6 in conference play and dropped the Lady Flames to 11-7. Both teams are 15-8 overall.

The visitors used the 3-point shot-making of Tatum Shaw (6-of-9), Brianna Burgess (5-of-9) and Jordan Gillies (4-of-8) to total 45 of the Trojans 71 points. Shaw finished with 25 points, Burgess 16 and Gillies 14. Trevecca made 15-of-28 triples (54%) and converted 23-of-56 shots overall (41%). Four treys in the final four minutes proved to be the difference in the hard-fought game.

While the Trevecca team was knocking down the triples, Lee was struggling from beyond the arc, hitting just 29% (6-of-21). Overall, the Lady Flames were solid from the field and built up the 37-29 halftime lead and shot 53% (28-of-53) for the game. Neither team made much progress from the charity stripe. However, the Trojans nailed key freebies near the end and finished with 10-of-15 free throws. Lee had 11 opportunities and converted seven.

The Lady Flames had the rebounding edge, 33-29. Baylee Delbridge and Hannah Jones were best with seven apiece. Abby McFarland grabbed six and Anna Muhonen came down with five. Muhonen had 19 points to lead the Lee scoring. McFarland tallied 14 points, Libby Privett 11 and Delbridge 10.

The Lady Flames had 16 assists to 14 turnovers. Muhonen dished off five assists. Trevecca had 17 assists compared to 11 turnovers. Gillies had seven assists while Cheyenne Trotter was the rebounding leader with nine.
Lee will seek to get back on the winning trail when they host another important GSC date against second-place Delta State on Thursday (5:30 p.m.) and then close out the home season against Mississippi College on Saturday (2 p.m.).

Coach Marty Rowe's thoughts:
"Give Trevecca credit, their team made some big shots, and I got out coached down the stretch. Their execution level and efficiency late in the game was different than ours."
