Softball Falls Twice to #8 UNG

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – The Lee University softball team lost both games of the double header to the University of North Georgia on Tuesday afternoon. In game one, UNG won in 5-3 in extra innings and then won game two in just five innings at 13-2. Lee fell to 5-9 on the season while the #8 Nighthawks improved to 10-2. Lee will remain on the road this weekend as they head to the University of Alabama in Huntsville to open Gulf South Conference action.
 
GAME 1
 
UNG got on the scoreboard in the top of the second inning. After two singles and fielder's choice, Kayla Berry came in to score on a throwing error on the Lee catcher Addison Emmerson. The Lady Flames tied the game in the second when Addi Lewis led the inning off with a solo home run over the left field fence.
 
North Georgia retook the lead in the top of the fifth on a solo home run from Journey Roberts. UNG doubled the lead in the top of the seventh. Two doubles and a sac bunt made it a 3-1 lead.
 
Lee tied the game in the bottom of the seventh. A single from Kaylee Wilson and Eva Amstrong got them on base, Sadie Winsett then walked to load the bases. Alyson Jarvi then walked to bring in Wilson. Addi Lewis tied the game on a single. Winsett was thrown out at home trying to win the game.
 
In the eighth inning, the international tie breaker was used. Morgan Martin was placed on second and was brought home with a Kayla Berry single. Carleigh Knowles then drove Berry in to make it 5-3. Lee could not score in the bottom half of the eighth and UNG won 5-3.
 
Chloe Poss was the winning pitcher throwing 151 pitches. She gave up three runs on eight hits. Sadie Winsett took the loss for Lee. She threw one and one-third innings She gave up four hits and three runs. Kaylee Underwood started the game for Lee and threw 107 pitches. She gave up two runs on six hits. Ella Baker threw two -thirds of an inning.
 
At the plate, Addi Lewis and Addison Emmerson each had two hits with Lewis driving in two runs.
 
GAME 2
 
UNG got on the board in the top of the first. Two doubles and a single plated two runs for the Nighthawks. In the second, UNG added another run with a hit by pitch, stolen base, and a double.
 
Lee got a run back in the bottom of the second. Addi Lewis walked and then Alyson Jarvi singled. Madison Pinzon then walked to load the bases. Eva Armstrong was also walked to bring Lewis home.
 
The Nighthawks added a fourth run in the third. Marycille Brumby doubled and then was brought home by Kayla Berry. Lee found a way to score in the third as well. Sadie Winsett doubled and then Addi Lewis singled to deep in the shortstop. Lewis then scored on a fielding error by the first baseman for North Georgia. 
 
The Nighthawks scored their fifth run of the game in the fourth inning. Carleigh Knowles doubled and then came to around to score with a Journey Roberts fielder's choice. Morgan Martin added to the UNG lead in the fifth with a solo home run. Berry singled and eventually scored on a wild pitch. Carleigh Knowles followed that up with a solo home run to make it 8-2 in the fifth. Brumby made it seven runs in the fifth when she hit a grand slam. UNG lead it 12-2. One more run scored in the top of the fifth on an error to make it 13-2.
 
Lila Mullinax earned the win for UNG. She threw four innings and gave up two runs on four hits. Caroline Conner threw an inning in relief. 
 
Layne Bailey took the loss for Lee. She threw four innings and gave up five runs on six hits. Ella Baker threw one inning and gave up eight runs on seven hits.
 
Eva Armstrong had the only RBI of the game. No player had more than one hit for Lee.
