CLEVELAND, Tenn. – The Lee University lacrosse team was outshot 34-22 on Friday evening and lost to the visiting UVA-Wise squad 13-9. Lee fell to 2-3 on the season while UVA-Wise improved to 4-0. The Lady Flames will continue a three game homestand on Wednesday, February 25 when Young Harris College comes to Cleveland.
It was a very low scoring first quarter as each team only scored one goal. Wise scored just over five minutes into the contest and then Emma Bailey tied it at 1-1 with three minutes left in the quarter. UVA-Wise outscored Lee in each of the remaining quarters. The Cavaliers led it 5-3 at the half and then outscored Lee 8-6 in the second half for the 13-9 final.
Taylor McGovern once again led Lee in goals with five. Bailey added two goals and two assists. Noelle Harrington and Lily Tomczik added the other two goals.
Savannah Weisman made 16 saves in goal for Lee to keep the game close.
There were 20 cards issued between both teams on Friday evening. The Cavaliers dominated the draw control taking 15 to just nine for Lee.
