CLEVELAND, Tenn. – The 16th-ranked Lee University men's tennis team stepped out of conference play to defeat Middle Georgia State University 4-0 Sunday afternoon at the DeVos Tennis Center. The Flames improved to 3-0, while the visiting Knights fell to 3-2.
Lee took an early advantage in the doubles competition with Rytis Razminas and Francisco Guimarães beating Nick Dufner and Vicente Faria 6-2 at No. 3 doubles. Stefan Mos and Filipe Krohn defeated Alejandro Vizoso Ansedes and Duarte Mestre by the same score at the second position to clinch the doubles point. The 21
st-ranked doubles team of Quinn Groenendijk and Jip Langerhuizen were leading Daniel Garcia and Alexander Achour 5-3 when the doubles point was secured, and the No. 1 doubles match was left unfinished.
Langerhuizen opened the singles competition with a win over Achour. Langerhuizen needed a 7-4 tiebreaker to claim the first set 7-6, then completed the straight set victory with a 6-1 margin in the second set.
Krohn, ranked No. 14, won the first and third sets against Ansedes to give Lee a 3-0 lead. Krohn posted a 7-3 tiebreaker in the first set and won the third 6-3 with a 6-1 setback in the second set.
Groenendijk dropped his first set with Garcia 6-3 before fighting back to win the next two sets with identical 6-4 set scores to clinch the team victory.
The final three singles matches were left unfinished with Lee leading each one. Mos was up 3-2 at the fourth position, Guimarães was also ahead 3-2 at No. 5 singles and Raziminas held a 4-0 lead at the sixth spot.
The Flames return to conference action with a trip to Valdosta State University on Wednesday. The GSC battle is set to begin at 2 p.m.

"We played a really solid doubles point today. We still have some areas we can improve, but overall, this was a good win for our men. We'll get some rest and start preparing for Valdosta State on Wednesday."
