CLEVELAND, Tenn. – The Lee University could not score a goal in the second quarter while Lewis University scored four goals to pull ahead for good. The Flyers led by five goals at the half and went on to defeat the Leady Flames 14-6 on Wednesday evening. Lee lost their third straight game and fell to 4-7 on the season.
The Lady Flames will remain at home on Sunday for the annual Lacrosse Out Cancer Game. Lee will host Lander University to open Gulf South Conference action while partnering with the Austin Hatcher Foundation.
Lewis struck first just 67 seconds into the contest. A few minutes later Talyor McGovern tied the game on a pass by Riley Bader. After the Flyers took the lead again, Kamille Kremkau scored a man-up goal to tie the game at 2-2. Lewis retook the lead with back-to-back goals and never relinquished it the rest of the contest. Emma Bailey scored a goal with 39 seconds left in the period to make it 4-3.
Lewis scored four goals in the second quarter to lead 8-3 at halftime. In the third quarter, Kylee Kangas and Kremkau each had a goal while the Flyers scored one. Lanie Carroll scored the first goal of the fourth quarter, but after that it was all Lewis as they scored five goals to win 14-6.
Savannha Weisman had a strong night in goal as she saved 18 shots which is just one off her career high. Lewis out shot Lee 44-19 in the win. Lee had 25 turnovers while Lewis had 14.
