Lee Softball Drops Doubleheader to Montevallo

MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The Lee University softball team dropped both games of the doubleheader to the University of Montevallo 10-1 and 2-0 on Saturday afternoon. The losses dropped Lee to 13-25 overall and 6-12 in Gulf South Conference action. The Lady Flames will remain on the road next weekend with three games at the University of West Florida. 
 
GAME 1
 
The Falcons only needed five innings to win the first game. Montevallo scored two runs in the bottom of the first. A triple, double, and an error brought the two runs home. In the bottom of the second, three singles and three doubles plated five more runs for UM and they led 7-0.
 
Lee got on the board in the third. Madison Pinzon led the frame off with a single. After a Reese Haun sacrifice bunt, Hailey Simco doubled to score Pinzon. Montevallo scored another run in the third when Riley Tyree doubled and then scored on two errors from Lee. The final two runs came in the fourth. UM used a hit by a pitch, double and single to score the runs.
 
The Lady Flames only had three this in the game. Simco, Pinzon and Kaelin Ault had her first hit of the season. Montevallo had 11 hits in the win.
 
Sadie Winsett started in the circle and took the loss. She threw one and one-third innings and gave up five runs on five hits. Ella Baker threw two innings and gave up three runs on four hits. Abigail Welbaum threw two-thirds of an inning and gave up three runs on four hits. 
 
GAME 2
 
The second contest was a pitcher's duel as the only runs came in the bottom of the sixth. Lee outhit Montevallo 7-4. Lee had hits in the first, second, fourth, and seventh innings but left seven runners on base.
 
Montevallo only managed two hits in the first five innings but did the damage in the sixth. Ariana Pinder walked and then Becca Benton and Makayla Peters both doubled to score the only two runs of the game. In the seventh, Alyson Jarvi doubled and Katie Hastings singled, but both were left on base to end the game.
 
Jarvi and Hastings each had two hits while Simco, Winsett, and Addi Lewis each had one.
 
Kaylee Underwood threw all six innings. She threw ninety pitches and gave up two runs on four hits. She gave up one walk and had four strikeouts.
