Lady Flames Snap Losing Streak With a GSC Won Over Virginia State

PETERSBURG, Va. – The Lee University lacrosse snapped a five-game losing streak on Sunday afternoon with a 17-9 win over Virginia State University. It was the first Gulf South Conference win on the season for the Lady Flames as VSU is in its first years as an affiliate member of the GSC. Lee improved their record to 5-9 overall and 1-2 in GSC action.
 
The Lady Flames got on the board quickly in just over 80 seconds. Lanie Carroll scored the first of her eight goals. It took almost nine minutes for Lee to score again and then they scored two in 19 seconds. Lily Tomczik scored and then Carroll scored right after that. The Trojans managed to get one goal before the end of the period. 
 
Kaitlyn Lawrence and Carroll scored a goal apiece before VSU scored their second. Lawrence added a second goal and Carroll her fourth as Lee led 7-3 at halftime.
 
VSU opened the third quarter with back-to-back goals and made it a 7-5 contest. Caroll added her fifth goal of the game to make it a three-goal lead. VSU added two more goals and Taylor McGovern scored twice to give Lee the 11-7 lead after 45 minute of action.
 
The fourth period belonged to Lee as they outscored Virigina State 6-2. Carroll had a couple of goals as did McGovern. Kamille Kremkau and Kylee Kangas closed out the scoring with one apiece. 
 
Carroll had eight goals while McGivern had four for Lee. McGovern added three assists and Tara Orloski did the same. Carroll took 15 shots with ten on goal. Kayla Carroll-Williams had three goals and an assist for VSU.
 
Savannah Weisman faced 24 shots with 18 on goal. She made 12 saves on the day while Ilyana Jones for VSU had eight saves as she face 34 shots with 25 on goal. 
 
Kremkau had five draw controls and Tomczik had four as Lee won the battle on the draw control.
 
The Lady Flames will return home next Saturday as they will face the top team in the nation. Flagler College will come to Lee on April 4 at 11 AM.

"It was a good day for Lee Lacrosse today! Lanie and Taylor were dominate on the attack end. Lanie with 8 goals and Taylor with 7 points respectively. Tara was solid on both side of the ball with 3 assists, 3 GB, and 3 caused turnovers. Savannah was a brick wall with 12 save leading her to surpass 300 career saves!"
