CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – The Lee University women's tennis team lost its second straight match with a 6-1 setback to No. 4 University of North Georgia Monday afternoon. The contest was part of the 3
rd Annual Scenic City College Tennis Spring Break Showcase hosted by North Georgia at the Champions Club Tennis Complex at Rivermont.
UNG grabbed the early advantage with a 6-0 win by Emily Bush and Linn Goerdes against Nicolette Fuhr and Jasmine Ibegbulam at No. 3 doubles. Rima Yoshida and Andrea Pascual Blanca defeated the 20
th-ranked doubles team of Anastasiia Opolska and Olesya Stokusova 6-2 to even the doubles score.
Aliyah Dwyer and Maria Fernanda Duarte were edged by Victoria Niox-Chateau and Sofia Giraldo 7-5 at No. 2 doubles as the Nighthawks claimed the doubles point.
Fuhr lost to Niox-Chateau 6-3 and 6-0 at No. 6 singles and Stokusova, ranked No. 29, took down No. 52 Dwyer 6-2, 6-3 to put UNG up 3-0. Giraldo defeated Pascual 6-4 and 6-2 at No. 2 singles to clinch the team victory.
Louise Rey beat Duarte 6-2, 6-1 at No. 5 singles before Yoshida ended UNG's shutout bid. Yoshida held off Opolska, ranked No. 15, to win their No. 1 singles match 6-4, 7-5. Goerdes was a 6-0, 7-5 winner over Vitória Maximiliano at No 4 singles to supply the final margin.
The Lady Flames are scheduled to return to action on March 21 in Pensacola, Florida, against the University of West Florida. The GSC matchup is scheduled for a noon start.
